I actually do like how this came out. surprisingly.
See, Whisper had an abusive childhood. When she was cast away, her brother went to find her. He wandered around for half a year before he went back home. Then he went in search of her again, but this time, he found her.
This is all about her old memories getting in the way of the love for her brother. And it's about art. And dreams. And so many other things...
"Whisper!" a hauntingly familiar voice cried. She paused, shocked. It couldn't be... The last time she had heard that voice, why, she had been running through the soft grasses in the field outside the village.
"Come and catch me!" Whisper called back to him. He laughed, and as they streaked through the tall grass, the fireflies that so delighted the young Whisper rose and flew into the air, illuminating the dim twilight air. Whisper threw her head back in an excess of joy, immersing herself in the air, the plants, the sky. Her brother yelped. She looked back. "What's wrong brother?"she called. He stared at a nearby tree. She gazed the same way, and dropped to her knees in horror. She had changed the color of the leaves by accident. Instead of being the fresh spring green, they were now a violent shade of blue. Whisper's eyes welled up. Her brother came to her. He looked sad. "Change it back Whisper." Whisper gritted her teeth and pushed through her magic, staring balefully at the tree. Slowly, it faded back to its original color. The air around Whisper shimmered with yellow and white tones for a brief moment. Whisper reached to her calf. Her brother sobbed and covered his eyes. "I'm sorry." she whispered. "You know if I don't then everything will go wrong. Blood for magic. That's the rule. That's always the rule." Her little brother shuddered and tearfully gazed at her. "But Whisper, why? Why do they make you do it?" Whisper looked down, shamefully. "I'm a monster, Wes. I deserve this." Wes wiped his eye. "You don't look like a monster to me." Whisper blinked sorrowfully. "Cover your eyes Wes." She pulled out her knife- it was long and sharped, carved with intricate swirling patterns. She rolled her thumb-sleeves up to her elbows and bit her bottom lip as her blood soaked into the soil below. The fireflies settled back into the grass.
When an arm wrapped around her and squeezed her tightly. "I found you sis." Wes whispered into her ear. She gasped, and her little brother laughed. "It's good to see you again after all this time. I missed you, sis. I missed you." In her head, Whisper shouted I missed you too! but the words couldn't seem to form on her tounge.
Gah-say wut? Unexpectedly violent? Us? No way. No, whatever lenora did, I'm sure she totally deserved his pulling out that humungus double-headed axe of his, and the village was being mean and you know it! *stamps foot childishly*
